SBI Card, being a responsible partner, has been pro-actively contributing towards the social and economic development of the community, thereby improving the quality of life of the local community and society, at large. In pursuance to contribute towards the nation’s agenda for skill development, SBI Card, in association with the National Skills Development Corporation (NSDC) is supporting placement linked skill development for the unemployed youth of Delhi/NCR across varied sectors i.e. BFSI (Banking Financial Services and Insurance), Retail, IT/ITES and Healthcare.
IL&FS Skills Development Corporation Limited (IL&FS Skills), under its partnership with NSDC, is implementing the CSR initiative of SBI Card covering over 1200 unemployed youth (over the last two years) in 3 sectors, namely BFSI, Retail and IT/ITES, as aleading agency for the programme, across 20 locations, in Delhi and NCR. The programme is being offered at IL&FS Institutes of Skills located at Okhla, Najafgarh, SangamVihar, Karkardooma and Dallupura clusters in Delhi/NCR, and has successfully placed trainees, with an average annual salary between Rs. 1,20,000 – Rs. 1,50,000/-
Ravi Bhagat, who hails from a small village in Bihar, moved to Delhi in search of a job. He was overwhelmed with the hustle-bustle of the city, and lost focus on his career. He had completed his class XII and was pursuing his Bachelors from the School of Open Learning. Despite the will to succeed, the youngster just did not know how. Ravi then met a community engagement ofﬁcial from the IL&FS Institute of Skills (IIS), and learnt about various programmes being offered by the institute. On visiting the institute, he was inspired by the simulated labs, and the training methodology, and registered for training as a Retail Sales Associate. The young man now draws an annual salary of Rs. 1,56,000/-, stands on his own feet, and has embarked on a career that may help him grow in life, further on.
Anamika Shukla’s journey is a success story too, in every sense of the word. She hails from a small village, but has all the courage and zeal to follow her dream. With her father inevitably aging, the care and responsibility of the entire family fell on her shoulders. She was determined to get skilled and work with a leading organization, for which she traveled over 40kms each day. Her hard work and determination paid off, when she successfully completed her training, and was placed with Star Health & Allied Insurance, earning Rs. 2,40,000/- per annum. Kudos to the young girl, who serves as a beacon of hope for many.
The story of Kajal, who belongs to a middle class family in SangamVihar, is no different. She believes that if you wish to achieve something you really want, you always ﬁnd a path leading to it. Taking that path is your responsibility! However, without the right skills, certiﬁcation and guidance, she could not crack any interview. Subsequently, the youngster got to know about skilling and its multifold benefits. She joined the IL&FS Institute of Skills, and completed her training as a retail sales associate with ﬂying colours. She is now actively contributing to the household kitty, and making her parents proud each day.
The aim of acquiring a skill is not just limited to gainful employment, but also the expansion of one’s horizons, and the sense of independence that empowers, each step of the way.
